Every October we recognize Women’s History Month, and the contributions of women in society, including the federal workplace. I know how much better the workplace is when we include a diversity of voices and experiences, like those of CAPE’s members, including women from all backgrounds and experiences.
CAPE’s membership is predominantly made up of women, and that’s why we continue to fight for pay equity, telework and other aspects of the federal workplace that mean more equity, equality, and flexibility for childcare and family-related care which still predominantly falls to women.
When our work environments, like our society, are made more inclusive and equitable, it benefits everyone. When more unique perspectives, backgrounds and experiences are shared, like those of women, including Indigenous, 2SLGBTQIA+, and racialized women, our decision-making can go beyond the status quo and be more comprehensive and fairer.
I hope you’ll join me this Women’s History Month, and continuing every day after, to include, listen to and respect women’s voices and experiences to drive us toward a more equitable and fairer workplace for women across the federal public sector.
