Solidarity with CUPW workers

The Canadian Association of Professional Employees (CAPE) stands in solidarity with its 55,000 siblings at the Canadian Union for Postal Workers (CUPW) who have gone on strike today.

Canada Post workers are striking for improvements to their health and safety, fair wages, and pension protections, as well as the expansion of services at post offices.

“Just like any worker in Canada, Canada Post workers deserve a decent wage and safe working conditions,” said CAPE President Nathan Prier. “I’m proud to have postal workers in my family, who love their jobs and serve their communities every day. This is just yet another instance of the federal government and its crown corporations refusing to treat critical workers with dignity on basic issues. This strike is entirely due to Canada Post, who refuses to bargain seriously and relies on anti-worker governments bailing them out, time and again.”

CAPE also applauds the Teamsters’ union at Purolator who have agreed to not handle Canada Post packages in solidarity with their union siblings. Solidarity is the source of our power as working people.
