Media advisory: CAPE, PSAC, PIPSC, ACFO and other federal public sector union members rally for remote work rights

Before the start of the workday on the first day of the Treasury Board’s three-day in-office mandate, members of the Public Sector Alliance of Canada (PSAC), Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada (PIPSC), Canadian Association of Professional Employees (CAPE),  Association of Canadian Financial Officers (ACFO), and other federal public sector unions are rallying once more to let federal government officials know why they are against the mandate.

Forcing thousands of federal employees back to insufficient and expensive downtown Ottawa offices more days a week is not a viable long-term solution to fix downtown Ottawa’s decades-long economic problems, and is affecting workers’ productivity, not to mention costing Canadian taxpayers money that could be better spent on affordable housing, community services and public good.

The telework mandate happened unilaterally, with no consultation with employees or their unions despite agreements made during the last round of negotiations, and did not consider existing issues with the hybrid policy already in place, or the negative impacts on employees.
