In February, to honour and recognize Black History Month, CAPE partnered with the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists (CBTU) and the Union of National Employees (UNE) to host a discussion on barriers to, and strategies for, building Black leadership and power in our unions.

CAPE would like to thank Chris Wilson from CBTU and Alisha Kang from UNE for sharing their stories, wisdom, and advice with us, as well as all participants who contributed to a rich and productive discussion.

CAPE wants to remind all equity-deserving members that if they’d like to use their union as a vehicle for power, one great method to begin is to put forward a proposal for an equity caucus. This gives you access to campaign planning resources, organizing training, staff support, and standing at the National Executive Committee to advance an action plan within CAPE’s formal structures.
