This year marks 20 years since the Social Science Employees Association and the Canadian Union of Professional and Technical Employees joined forces to create the Canadian Association of Professional Employees (CAPE).
At this year’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), we will be reviewing achievements from 2023 while celebrating CAPE’s 20th anniversary and our history, growth and successes from the last 20 years. This is a time to celebrate our past while laying the foundation for a strong future.
Join us to recognize the hard work and dedication of our leaders and volunteers who, for the last year – and the past two decades – have helped CAPE become an effective and influential federal public sector union and bargaining agent.

Please note that we can only accommodate 200 participants in person. Once these spots have been filled, members will only have the option to participate virtually.

This AGM has been designed to be accessible to all CAPE members in accordance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act. CAPE automatically provides common accessibility measures, including an accessible venue, online access, English and French audio interpretation, ASL and LSQ interpretation, and communication access real-time translation (CART) captioning.
We encourage members who require additional accommodation to inform the Association of their needs using your registration form at least five days before the event so that we can make reasonable accommodations to address your needs.

To ensure its events are attended only by its members, CAPE always requires members to pre-register. Only persons whose membership with CAPE has been confirmed will be allowed to participate in CAPE events, in person or virtually.
For members joining online, extra steps are taken to help confirm their identity. CAPE requires that they add their full name to their Zoom account when connecting to the meeting to allow CAPE to confirm their membership.
The purpose of these restrictions is to protect members and their privacy, to preserve the democratic integrity of these events, and to ensure that information intended for CAPE members only is indeed shared with members only.

CAPE would like to do its best to allow for online participation while respecting the health and safety requirements of its interpreters.
Online participants must be identified by their name and Local or department. Anonymous participation is not allowed as this is a members’ only event.
Online participants will be able to ask questions verbally and through the Q&A function.
To ask questions verbally:
Online participants who want to ask their questions verbally will be required to log on 15-30 minutes early and do a sound check with the technicians. Online participants who wish to speak must:
- be identified by name and Local or department
- turn on their camera when they're speaking
- have a headset with a built-in mic and wired USB connection
Earbuds or wireless headsets are not approved for speaking due to the health and safety risks the sound can pose to the interpreters.
CAPE, the technicians, and the interpreters reserve the right to cut off microphones or not interpret should the sound not be of adequate quality in order to protect the health and safety of interpreters.
During the Q&A periods CAPE will prioritize questions that were submitted in advance by the deadline, and then will alternate between questions from members in the room, questions collected via the Q&A box in Zoom, and from online participants who have been sound-tested and approved. Questions submitted anonymously will not be considered.

>>Voting period from November 30 to December 13, 2023
The voting period for the new National Executive Committee (NEC) will begin following the AGM. Pursuant to CAPE’s Constitution and Bylaws, members in good standing will be asked to vote for their preferred candidates for president, vice-president and director positions. Meet the candidates.
Members will also be asked to vote on a resolution being put forward, to approve the Association’s financial statements and the choice of the auditing firm that will audit the Association’s financial statements.

2023 marks the end of the current NEC mandate and the AGM brings us closer to the national election vote, to be held between November 30 and December 13, when you will get to choose your new directors, vice-presidents and president. Read more about all the positions here.
The AGM will offer you an opportunity to hear from and meet the five candidates running for CAPE president, as the Elections and Resolutions Committee has invited each of them to deliver a two-minute final speech to the membership at the AGM.
The president is the only full-time paid position on the NEC and their mandate will be carried out over a three-year period from January 2024 to December 2026.

William (Bill) Krause
Bill Krause is CAPE's first president. He and Mr. Luc Pomerleau, who sadly passed away recently, assumed the role after spearheading the formation and founding of the Association, which was born in 2003 from the merger of the Social Science Employees Association, formerly the Economists, Sociologists and Statisticians Association, and the Canadian Union of Professional and Technical Employees. He will share with us his memories and insights from this pivotal moment in CAPE's history.
Kwame Osei
Kwame is a dynamic professional facilitator and keynote speaker for seminars, corporate events, school events, youth events, non-profit organizations and charitable events. His talks aim to inspire change, action and growth – pushing people to broaden their perspective and take control of their own personal development. He will also share his perspective on diversity and inclusion within communities, schools, and workplaces.
