CUPW Picket Line Details

Members of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) have been on strike since Friday November 15 and are fighting for fair wages, safe working conditions, the right to retire with dignity, and the expansion of services at the public post office.

We’re inviting CAPE members, especially those who are on parental leave, to join the picket line with CAPE this Friday, November 22 from 12 – 1pm at the Ottawa Mail Processing Plant – 1424 Sandford Fleming Ave. There is an Indigo parking lot across the street. The picket line is an 18-minute walk from the O-Train Via station stop.

Why Should YOU Join the Picket Line?

CUPW was key in winning maternity leave benefits for workers in Canada during a 42-day strike in 1981, winning 17 weeks of paid maternity leave and setting a new standard for parental benefits. Shortly after the CUPW strike, members of the Public Service Alliance of Canada and members of the Communications Workers of Canada negotiated maternity leave, and unions kept pushing for additional leaves to cover adoption, paternity leave and parental leave.

Unionized workers that enjoy parental leaves can show our gratitude and solidarity with CUPW in their ongoing fight for fair wages and improved working conditions by joining their picket line with CAPE this Friday!

CAPE will be bringing refreshments and food.
