>> Organizing to win!
This has been a transformative year for CAPE. Our union has become increasingly effective in mobilizing and organizing to win. In 2024, we have seen hundreds of our members stepping up and taking action, standing against unjust and harmful workplace policies. We have witnessed many members rise as leaders within their locals, spearheading positive change.
In 2024, CAPE leadership was able to mobilize a broader base, build stronger ties to other unions, and speak with a louder voice. This has shown us that we are stronger and more powerful when members get involved, when unions stand up together, and when we collectively hold the employer accountable.
The fight for remote work, for Phoenix compensation, for interpreters’ health and safety, and against discrimination and harassment are just some of the big pressure points that have motivated us.
We are organizing for change.
We are organizing for justice.
We are organizing to win!
>>> Guest Speakers
Join us at the AGM to hear two outstanding union leaders share insights on the powerful value of the organizing model introduced at CAPE in 2024, and their own experience achieving significant gains in recent union actions.
Alex Silas, National Executive Vice-President, PSAC

CAPE would like to do its best to allow for online participation while respecting the health and safety requirements of its interpreters.
Online participants must be identified by their name and Local or department. Anonymous participation is not allowed as this is a members’ only event.
Online participants will be able to ask questions verbally and through the Q&A chat function. Cellphones, earbuds, or wireless headsets are not approved for speaking due to the health and safety risks the sound can pose to the interpreters. It must be wired headsets with built-in microphone and wired USB connection or a table microphone.
To ask questions verbally:
Online participants who want to ask their questions verbally will be required to log on 15-30 minutes early and do a sound check with the technicians. Online participants who wish to speak must:
- be identified by name and local or department
- turn on their camera when they're speaking
- have a headset with a built-in mic and wired USB connection
Earbuds or wireless headsets are not approved for speaking due to the health and safety risks the sound can pose to the interpreters. More details on which headsets and table microphones are accepted here.
CAPE, the technicians, and the interpreters reserve the right to cut off microphones or not interpret should the sound not be of adequate quality in order to protect the health and safety of interpreters.
During the Q&A periods CAPE will prioritize questions that were submitted in advance by the deadline, and then will alternate between questions from members in the room, questions collected via the Q&A chat box in Zoom, and from online participants who have been sound-tested and approved. Questions submitted anonymously will not be considered.
>> Register today and submit questions in advance!
Whether you wish to participate in person or virtually, you must register in advance using this form. Note that the form allows you to submit questions in advance of the AGM.

>> Child-minding services
CAPE is pleased to offer child-minding services for members attending our AGM at the Delta Hotel. Instructions
>> Accessibility – reach out if you need accommodation
This AGM has been designed to be accessible to all CAPE members in accordance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act. CAPE automatically provides common accessibility measures, including an accessible venue, online access, English and French audio interpretation, ASL and LSQ interpretation, and communication access real-time translation (CART) captioning.
We encourage members who require additional accommodation to inform the Association of their needs using your registration form at least five days before the event so that we can make reasonable accommodations to address your needs.
>>CAPE events are exclusively for CAPE members
To ensure its events are attended only by its members, CAPE always requires members to pre-register. Only persons whose membership with CAPE has been confirmed will be allowed to participate in CAPE events, in person or virtually.
For members joining online, extra steps are taken to help confirm their identity. CAPE requires that they add their full name to their Zoom account when connecting to the meeting to allow CAPE to confirm their membership.
The purpose of these restrictions is to protect members and their privacy, to preserve the democratic integrity of these events, and to ensure that information intended for CAPE members only is indeed shared with members only.
>>Voting period from November 18 to November 29, 2024
The voting period will begin following the AGM. Pursuant to CAPE’s Constitution and Bylaws, members in good standing will be asked to vote for the resolutions being put forward, to approve the Association’s financial statements and the budget.
EC members will also be asked to vote for their preferred candidate for the director position. Meet the candidates.
