Apologies from Defence must be followed by Culture Change
Yesterday’s public apology to military sexual misconduct victims by the Government of Canada was a step in the right direction to correct the wrongs in the Canadian military which a government report found was “hostile to women and LGBTQ members and conducive to more serious incidents of sexual harassment”. CAPE commends the government for taking this initiative but will expect to see concrete actions aimed at delivering the long-lasting cultural change victims have been demanding for years. Workplaces should be free of sexual harassment and the Government of Canada needs to fully commit to a zero-tolerance policy across all departments and agencies.
