The government of Canada, which employs more than two hundred thousand federal public servants, including the members of CAPE, is celebrating National Public Service Week this year from June 11 to 17.
According to the government’s website, the objective of National Public Service Week is to “recognize the value of the services rendered by federal public service employees” and to “acknowledge the contribution of federal public service employees to the federal administration.”
We feel that the one thing our employer could do that would have a real impact on the well-being of its employees and demonstrate that it values our work would be to repair the Phoenix pay system once and for all! It is all well and good to receive recognition and acknowledgement for our contribution, but it would be far better if the government applied the corrective measures which the public service unions have been demanding now for months!

Together with our fellow pubic service unions, we will be taking advantage of several of the week’s events to reaffirm an obvious fact: the best way for the employer to demonstrate how much it respects its employees and values their work is to fix Phoenix.
What we want, therefore, is for the government to treat National Public Service Week as an opportunity to tell us, in practical terms, how it will go about solving all of the problems related to the Phoenix pay system.
CAPE locals, as well as other locals of the Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada and the Public Service Alliance of Canada will distribute buttons and organize activities during Public Service Week. Do not hesitate to join them!
