CAPE is hosting a hybrid information session and discussion – rooted in engagement with its members – to debate the future structure and financing of the Defence Fund. As you may know, CAPE members approved two resolutions on the Defence Fund following last year’s Annual General Meeting. One was a resolution put forward by the National Executive Committee (NEC) which temporarily capped the Defence Fund at $5 million and the other was a Members’ resolution that sought to expand the Defence Fund annually. The Terms of Reference for the Defence Fund can be found here.
This session will aim to answer members’ questions around the Defence Fund and its possible uses, discuss and debate different models going forward and how the Defence Fund works in concert with organizing to protect members.
About this event
This will be a hybrid event with the possibility to attend in-person in the National Capital Region or by video conference.
It will be bilingual with simultaneous interpretation provided.
We encourage all interested members to attend; in-person attendance will be capped at 120 attendees.
This information and debate session will inform CAPE’s discussions on the Defence Fund and its financing going forward and is being held in partial fulfilment of CAPE’s obligations under the member’s resolution put forward in 2022 on the Defence Fund and collective bargaining. Next steps will include a survey for members on the Defence Fund and collective bargaining, educational sessions and materials on collective bargaining, and the development of a range of financing options for the Defence Fund that will be presented to the Finance Committee and NEC in the coming months.
We encourage your participation as all feedback will be considered in the final resolution of this issue.
Our goal is to support, protect and advance your rights and interests — effectively, accountably and for the benefit of all those we represent.
CAPE welcomes and encourages healthy debates and the exchanging of ideas and opinions in a mutually respectful manner.
