Efforts to convey CAPE’s recommendations in the context of the review of Canada’s Official Languages Act paid off. After participating in consultative events and discussing directly with the Office of the Minister of Tourism, Official Languages and La Francophonie, CAPE’s recommendations were retained and included in the report published at the end of the round tables on the subject.
The consultations were launched in March 2019 by the Ministry of Tourism, Official Languages and La Francophonie to review the Act as a way to improve the promotion and protection of Canada’s official languages. CAPE champions our official languages and immediately stepped in to share its views on improvements critically needed at institutional level.

CAPE participated in the Montreal consultation on April 26, 2019. It later joined other stakeholders at the Symposium for the 50th anniversary of the Official Languages Act held in Ottawa on May 27-28, 2019, where its views resonated with many other participants.
CAPE is pleased to see that our recommendations have been captured in the report and hope they will be considered for implementation. The work continues with the Ministry of Tourism, Official Languages and La Francophonie, the Translation Bureau, and Treasury Board to see that progress is made on this file.
