On September 25th, the Canadian Association of Professional Employees (CAPE) connected with Hon. Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Public Services and Procurement for the first time since his nomination in July.

Hon. Duclos is familiar with CAPE having interacted several times with the Association during his time as President of the Treasury Board, from November 2019 to October 2021.

Camille Awada, CAPE President, encouraged Hon. Duclos to work with unions as he carries out the budget refocussing process, which the President of the Treasury Board called on all departments to undertake in a bid to find $15.4 billion savings in government spending.

The meeting set the tone for future meetings and both CAPE and Hon. Duclos agreed to stay connected to discuss CAPE members’ immediate and short-term concerns.
