CAPE and European Public Service Union discuss strategies for securing telework rightsCAPE and European Public Service Union discuss strategies for securing telework rights

On March 11, 2025, CAPE presented The Fight for Telework: A Future for Canadian Federal Employees to the European Public Service Union (EPSU) Standing Committee for National and EU Administration. The presentation covered the evolution of telework policies in Canada, union advocacy efforts, and the broader impact of return-to-office mandates.

Key issues included the contrast between government and union perspectives on return-to-office policies, CAPE’s multi-faceted advocacy strategy, and international solidarity on telework rights. Nadja Salson, an EPSU representative, expressed interest in learning from CAPE’s experiences. John Moloney assistant general secretary with the Public and Commercial Services Union from the UK, reinforced CAPE’s concerns, highlighting similar challenges in his jurisdiction.

During the Q&A, participants sought clarity on CAPE’s demands, member mobilization challenges, and public perception. EPSU unions shared their experiences, noting a non-binding EU telework agreement and agreeing to share it as a reference for CAPE’s future efforts.

The event fostered international collaboration, with strong engagement and shared strategies for advancing telework protections. CAPE will continue working with global partners to push for fair telework policies and legislative safeguards.
